Keeping a lawn maintained is important but it can be very time consuming if you have an area that is half an acre or larger. Thankfully, there are machines that will make it faster and more enjoyable: zero turn riding lawn mowers.
Zero turn riding lawn mowers were at first used only by professional landscaping companies but many manufacturers now produce some for residential use. These mowers move faster than a traditional ride on mower and once started they are constantly cutting grass instead of having to be positioned to cut.
They also turn on a dime because they pivot on the rear wheels and this allows for close cutting around flowerbeds and bushes. But is important to take into consideration the width of the cutting deck.
The smallest deck size available is 30 inches on a Husqvarna mower but they usually start at 42 inches and go all the way up to 60 inches. The size of the deck determines how much grass it can cut at once and factors into maneuverability around obstacles.
Here are a few guidelines from a manufacturer on the deck size and the amount of lawn that needs to be cut:
The 42 inch deck is good for half an acre to an acre, 42 inch or 46 inch is fine for one to two acres, and a 46, 50, or 54 inch deck is appropriate for two to three acres.
There is also the amount of horsepower to take into account but most consumers will mainly base their buying decisions on the deck size because the bigger the machine, generally the bigger the horsepower.
There are a few downsides to a zero turn mower such as the low ground clearance and the problem with cutting on a slope greater than 10 or 15 degrees. But overall, they get rave reviews because it makes the job faster and are more fuel efficient.

We decided to ride our mudding mowers thru a muddy stream bed out behind my house. It was really slick stuff because that whole area was flooded 2 days before. We still had fun though. We even managed not to break anything!

A little video recorded on the lawn mower while driving. It pulls nice up hill. And the Rpm is easy to adjust. Onboard the lawn mower is a 12-230 volt Inverter, for driving the blower.
